🦋The Day I Stopped Leaving Her Behind.

This weekend I realized something that broke my heart.

Every time someone talks down to me, I don't just hear their words...

I become the little girl who learned to disappear.

When I was a child, I would hide after being hurt so no one would see my tears. I thought I had outgrown that.

But I hadn't.

I had simply grown older.

This weekend, I found myself doing the same thing. Instead of enjoying my family, I withdrew. I stayed away. Not because I wanted to...

...but because little Missy believed she was safer hidden than seen.

Then something changed.

I realized I've spent years wishing someone had protected that little girl.

Waiting for someone to comfort her.

Waiting for someone to tell her she wasn't always wrong... that she wasn't the problem... that she deserved to be loved.

And then it hit me.

That little girl isn't waiting for someone else anymore.

She's waiting for me.

Healing isn't pretending the hurt never happened.

Healing is refusing to abandon yourself when the hurt shows up again.

So the next time life tells little Missy she's not enough...

I'm going to kneel beside her instead of walking away.

I'm going to remind her that one person's words don't determine her worth.

I'm going to protect her peace instead of sacrificing it to keep someone else comfortable.

Because the greatest gap I may ever close...

...is the distance between the little girl who was hurting and the woman who finally came back for her.

Before I leave you today, I want to ask you something.

Who is still waiting inside of you?

The little boy who was never told he mattered?

The little girl who still believes everything was her fault?

The teenager who learned to hide instead of hope?

Maybe today isn't about changing your whole life.

Maybe it's about making one promise to the younger version of yourself:

"I won't leave you alone anymore."

The world may not understand why you react the way you do.

But healing begins the moment you understand—and choose compassion instead of condemnation.

So today, when that younger version of you begins to hurt, don't silence them.

Sit beside them.

Comfort them.

Protect them.

Tell them the truth.

Then take them by the hand...

...and keep walking.

Because we're not just closing the gaps between our past and our future.

We're closing the gap between who we needed... and who we're becoming.

Until next time... let's keep healing together. 💜
